HEART OF THE BEAST

The first one. KRM-001, before there was a Vault to put it in.

A gorilla cut into hard polygons, matte black, with a single faceted red heart set into the chest where the ribs would open. Everything else about the figure refuses you. The heart is the one part that admits to anything.

That is the argument the whole practice runs on, made early and made obviously. Later pieces say it more quietly.

Fiberglass at 185 centimetres, finished in high gloss vinyl rather than plated chrome, because the faceting needed edges that stayed sharp and plating softens them.

Five were made. All five are gone.
